It could all be so simple…

Birds on the back burner for the moment.

I’ve always said that for me, it’s all about portraiture. It’s time to bring’er back.
I almost forgot how much fun it is to draw like this.

Walton Ford

I could look at this man’s work for hours and hours.

I love the scale he uses…I’m working on a big painting now, there is something to be said about painting small detail BIG. Walton Ford is king. The best.

Rabbit amongst the horses…

Illustration of the single Rabbit on the Carousel in Bryant Park.
In other news, I am now represented by The Artist Group. They have just developed an illustration division headed by my dear friend Mike Echlin.
I’m pretty excited about this opportunity!!!
More to come…

Life changer.

I paint canvases…there is no structure or rules to the way I make an image. I certainly have a system…but perfection of crisp lines and smooth finishes are hardly of any concern for me.

My good friend Michael Scapillati is a different kind of painter…he cares a great deal about lines and crisp edges. He’s a mega perfectionist, but the work he does requires it. Mike comes from a rich family lineage of perfectionists with paint & paper; they don’t lay it on canvas (though he has and to my dismay is pretty brilliant at that too) but on walls. I’m very lucky (some may argue…har har) to know two very talented members of this lineage…Matthew and Michael. Both are doing their thing, making peoples homes far more beautiful than one of my paintings ever could.

Mike has been featured here…and I have to say, I have always admired his talent and his outrageously high standards. I’m proud of him, he works hard at what he does and is pretty great at it…and soon that craftsmanship will be coating the walls in my room.

I know you guys will cringe when you read this… but I’m really proud of you for the quality and care of work you do, I know aint easy.

Fashion Illustrator from Berlin.  I like her. This work makes me want to draw with charcoal pencils.

Beautiful head pieces constructed entirely of boots, pumps and flats.
So stunning!

Having finally climbed out from my “hole in the ground” apartment, I’m now in a lofty bedroom above the trees. My creativity is back up; it’s amazing what a big window and heaps of light can do.
I’ve got some new ideas I’m working out which means I will be making some new work, finally.
Recently I’ve been having a difficult time articulating the significance behind the images I make. Of course getting to the root of things can be a challenge and somewhat counter productive, as it is always changing, shifting. The constant analysis totally discourages the process for me. Regardless, it doesn’t change the fact that I feel compelled to be able to express to people what my intent is.
Blah blah blah.
Long story short, I am starting to uncover a concise direction for my animals-I don’t think I have pulled enough out of them to fully extinguish them just yet.

So, I guess… stay tuned?
