Keeping us guessing

November 16, 2010

An image that has stuck with me is that of the magpie and her locket. I’ve drawn it and been drawn to it so many times… or variations of it, I can only rationalize that it’s significance is pretty important.
When it continually re-emerges in my life, like it does, it gets me thinking about the idea of totems, myth and folk-lore –  I’ve been trying to find a way to convey this idea in new work and then I find myself stuck. Then that bird just shows up, chasing that locket.
It’s got to mean something…. The locket is something pretty personal for me…I know what it embodies for me.  The bird isn’t so clear… and that’s just like the magpie. Keeping us guessing.

So here, again…..My Magpie and her Locket
